Did you know that different perm hairstyles suit various hair types? Whether you have short, medium, or long hair, our hairstylists at our hair salons in Singapore can help you find the perfect style.

At Kimage, we offer a range of
perm hair techniques including cold perm, digital perm, airwave perm, fringe stitching (exclusive to Kimage!), and cushion perm. These methods create natural-looking, loose, soft, or defined curls.

Perm hairstyles typically last between 3 to 8 months, depending on the type of perm and how well it’s maintained. We also offer a variety of
hair care products tailored for permed hair.

One common question we receive is, "What hair cannot be permed?" We advise clients with previously bleached hair to avoid perms, as it can cause frizziness. If there are still bleached sections, we recommend trimming those areas, especially if the damage is confined to the tips.

If you're unsure which perm style is right for you, this article will guide you through the different perm hairstyles based on your hair type. Ready for a new look? Find your nearest Kimage Salon branch

Perm Hairstyles

1. Beach Wave Perm

As the name suggests, a beach wave perm features loose, natural-looking waves. This type of perm hairstyle adds volume and body to naturally straight or flat hair. Our customers love getting a beach wave perm because it reduces styling time and helps tame frizz. This perm is particularly suitable for those with medium to long hair.

There are three perm methods we use to achieve a beach wave perm: cold perm, digital perm, and airwave perm. A cold perm is a technique our stylists at Kimage Hair Salons in Singapore use when clients prefer not to use heat to create curls. A digital perm, on the other hand, involves both heat and chemicals to form nicely defined loose curls. The airwave perm utilizes an airwave machine to create curls, which can range from loose to tight depending on the desired effect.

When it comes to the longevity of a beach wave perm, it typically lasts around 4 months. However, this largely depends on how well you care for your perm hairstyle and the hair care products you use.

2. Body Wave Perm

Unlike traditional curls that appear very defined, a body wave perm features soft, bouncy, and natural-looking curls. Whether you have short, medium, or long hair, a body wave perm is ideal for all hair types. This is a great alternative for those looking to reduce their use of heat styling tools, as this type of perm won’t require hours of styling.

To achieve this look, our hairstylists at our hair salons in Singapore use the cold perm technique. This method does not involve heat; instead, strands of hair are wrapped in curlers or rods, and alkaline is applied to set the curls.

Body wave perms can last anywhere from 3 to 6 months, depending on how well you maintain it.

3. Root Perm

As implied by the name, a root perm is a perm hairstyle that targets the hair roots, lifting and adding volume, especially for those with fine or thin hair. This perm is ideal for individuals with short hair who want to achieve natural-looking curls starting from the roots.

To achieve a root perm hairstyle, the cold perm method is used to prevent heat damage to the hair and scalp. In this process, strands of hair are wrapped around curlers or rods, and an alkaline solution is applied to lift the hair, resulting in tighter, more voluminous curls.

Root perms can last up to three months.

4. Multi-textured Perm

A multi-textured perm is suitable for those with straight or naturally wavy hair. With this type of perm hairstyle, you can customize the overall look of your curls because our hairstylists at our hair salons in Singapore can use different curling rod sizes to achieve your desired style. This is ideal if you want a combination of well-defined and looser curls. The curls from this perm will undoubtedly add movement and dimension to your hair.

There are two perm methods used to achieve a multi-textured perm: cold perm and digital perm. The curls from a cold perm are tighter and more voluminous, while those from a digital perm are nicely defined and looser.

Multi-textured perms typically require touch-ups after 3 to 6 months as the curls loosen over time. If you are unsure about the type of perm hairstyle you want, we offer a complimentary hair consultation with our body and texture stylists at our
hair salons in Singapore before your appointment.
