Balayage is a highly popular hair service at our hair salons in Singapore. The outcome of balayage typically results in natural-looking, sun-kissed hair. It’s perfect if you want added dimension and depth to your hair. The process usually starts with our hairstylists sweeping the color through the mid-lengths of your hair and blending it towards the ends.
Unlike highlights, the results from balayage look more natural and less uniform. With foil highlights, the highlights are often consistent and start from the roots.
At our salons in Singapore, we use several balayage techniques: Freehand balayage, Traditional balayage, Foilyage, Airtouch, Babylights, Ombre, and Sombre. These techniques are chosen based on the client’s needs.
Our hairstylists often request inspiration photos from clients before starting the service to ensure the correct balayage technique is used. If clients are unsure of what color to choose, we perform a color test beforehand to determine which shades complement their skin tone.
If you’re considering a balayage or want to learn more about it, this article is perfect for you. We cover the various balayage techniques used in our salons, their differences, and how each technique is performed.

As the name suggests, freehand balayage is a technique where hairstylists apply hair color to different sections of the hair free handedly. The highlights appear less uniform and are seamlessly blended. Additionally, with this technique, our hairstylists at our salons in Singapore typically follow no specific guidelines other than the inspiration photos provided by the client.

With this balayage technique, the hair color is swept from the middle part of your hair toward the ends. Highlights in traditional balayage are applied by purposefully selecting specific sections of the hair. Similar to freehand balayage, your hair color will appear seamlessly blended and feature a natural-looking gradient.

Foilayage is a balayage technique that uses hair foils. It combines the sweeping method found in freehand balayage. In this technique, sections of hair are wrapped in foils to achieve the desired highlights or lowlights and to separate these sections from the base hair color.

Airtouch is one of our popular balayage techniques at our hair salons in Singapore. This technique uses air to blend hair color seamlessly. Instead of using a comb to tease or backcomb the hair for a natural-looking color gradient, our stylists use a blow dryer to achieve this effect.

Babylights is a balayage technique ideal for those who want softer and more subtle highlights. This technique features highlights that are darker at the roots and gradually lighten towards the ends of the hair.

Ombre is a balayage technique that uses 2 to 3 hair colors. With this technique, the hair color usually appears darker at the roots and gradually transitions to lighter shades towards the tips of the hair.
Sombre is a milder version of ombre. With this balayage technique, hair colors are seamlessly blended to create a gradient, but the result is more toned down compared to ombre. If you are unsure whether you want to go for ombre or sombre, our stylists at our hair salons in Singapore offer a complimentary consultation to give you advice.
Our balayage hair service by senior stylists costs:
Highlights / Balayage (without bleaching) - $180 to $260
Highlights / Balayage + 1 round of bleaching - $220 to $320
Our balayage hair service by Junior Stylists costs:
Highlights / Balayage (without bleaching) + Haircut - $140 to $180
Colour + 1 round of bleaching + Haircut - $180 to $240
Colour + 2 rounds of bleaching + Haircut - $220 to $300
The highlights you get from balayage are natural-looking and seamlessly blended, while the highlights from foil highlights look more consistent and uniformed. Regrowth lines are less apparent with balayage and more apparent with highlights over time. Additionally, with balayage, you don’t have to worry about color bleeding, where some areas of the hair get affected by bleach from the highlights.
Ideally, balayage lasts for 3 to 4 months, but this depends on how you maintain it and the products you use daily. We recommend using sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner to preserve the hair color, reduce the chances of fading, and keep the hair moisturized.
