How do I take care of my hair after a perm?

To maintain the curls of your hair after your appointment, ensure that you follow these:

1. Find out more about perm hairstyles

Especially if it’s your first time getting a hair perm, we advise that you consult our perm specialists and body and texture stylists during or after your hair service. You may ask them how to properly maintain the curls, the right products suitable for your perm hairstyle, and when the best time is to visit them again for a trim.

2. Wash your hair after 24 hours

Wait at least 24 hours before you wash your hair after getting your hair perm. If you feel the need to wash your hair immediately after your appointment, that should not be a problem, but note that this is only recommended if you want your curls to appear softer and more natural-looking (think: beach waves curls).

If you are going to swim, we highly recommend wearing a swimming cap to avoid saltwater from touching your hair.

3. Find the right hair products

Avoid washing your hair with products containing strong ingredients like alcohol, sulfate (SLS), and silicones because they can strip away hair moisture. Instead, use hair care products rich in protein, that retain moisture, and are meant for permed hair. Additionally, incorporate products that can combat UV rays and protect your hair from free radicals.



Use sulfate-free shampoo (avoid using anti-dandruff shampoo as this may weaken the curls) and conditioner at least once a week. After conditioning your hair, avoid brushing it with a brush. Instead, gently comb your hair with a wide-spaced comb in the shower to help avoid breaking the strands of curls in your perm hairstyle.

To further retain the curls of your hair, we recommend using hair care products that will rehydrate your hair after getting it permed. The Lucicare Milk S or Lucicare Milk C are designed to nourish and replenish any lost moisture and nutrients from permed hair!

4. Use a heat protectant or Thermique when using heat styling tools.

To prevent your hair from getting frizzy and developing split ends when using heat styling tools such as a hair dryer or curling iron, apply a heat protectant hair care product first. When using a blow dryer, don’t forget to attach a diffuser to protect your hair from the heat and reduce frizz. Diffusers will not only protect your locks from heat and frizz but also help enhance the curls and retain the volume for your Perm Hairstyle.

5. Refrain from undergoing chemical treatments

After getting a perm hairstyle, we highly advise against undergoing any other chemical treatments that can alter your hair’s structure. Wait at least a month before undergoing any chemical treatments such as hair coloring, balayage, or keratin treatments.



Since getting a hair perm already involves applying chemicals to achieve the proper texture of the hair perm type, give your hair some time to rest from any chemical treatment first.

6. Hairstyling Routine

When it comes to your hairstyling routine, visit your hairstylist after 4-5 weeks for a haircut. Getting a regular trim will help maintain the overall structure of your perm.
